Youth Leadership, Across Difference, For Justice

2020 Summer Programming Update!

The City School will be hosting a Virtual Summer Training Series (VSP) this summer from July 6th, 2020- August 14th, 2020.

Due to the evolving nature of COVID-19 and the ambiguity that exists during this time, after much consideration and input from staff, partners and various community members, we hold true that this is not a time to stop our work completely but rather adapt. Moreover, we know moments like these enhance our community's continued need for space and support. With this being said, The City School has decided to host a virtual summer program this year, more specifically a training program with a small staff team and 15-18 youth leaders that have previously participated in our Summer Leadership Program. Although this is not our ideal program model, we know our work is relational and a major component to that work involves supporting and helping new participants to develop themselves and others in person. While many components to the program will be missed due to community members not engaging in person, we are fully committed to youth leadership and social justice work in the Greater Boston area by making sure the core values are still alive and well. With such complexity, we recognize that working with a smaller team to prioritize revamping the SLP curriculum and training developing staff and returning youth leaders to maximize our own capacity, and best positions us in preparation for SLP 2021.

FYI: If you have applied to SLP as a new prospective participant, we will be glad to place your application on a priority list for SLP 2021. You do not have to do anything, we will contact you in winter 2021.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Amatullah at amatullah@thecityschool.org or 857-294-0212.

Boston Mobilization, TCS Affiliate, Closing its Door

TCS working to carry on its programs

We are sad to report that Boston Mobilization, a major player in Greater Boston social justice work for over 40 years and an affiliate of The City School since 2017, is closing its doors. Its “SubUrban Justice” after school program has sent many youth into TCS’s Summer Leadership Program; and the two organizations have partnered in many youth activism and training endeavors over the years.

The good news is: Boston Mobilization’s Social Justice Leadership Institute (SJLI) will carry on under The City School!  There are two Institutes planned for this coming fall and winter, and SubUrban Justice youth will be involved in these impactful trainings. Moving forward, Mobe and TCS staff are working with partners to set up support systems for youth.

We at The City School salute and thank the many youth, activists, donors, and public figures who have supported and worked with Boston Mobilization over the years. We pledge to carry on its work, legacy, and mission, which is essentially the same as ours:  “working for justice, across differnce.”
